It's getting colder in Iowa...

We're getting closer to Bolivia every day, and we're so excited! A generous pledge came in today, bringing our fundraising total to around $1500 right now. We recently visited by telephone with a couple of people who gave us excellent advice. After prayerful consideration between the three of us, we have decided to remove the trip home at Christmas from our plans. It will save a lot of funds, and if we raise them anyway, they would make a nice gift for the Carmen Pampa Fund. Also, we would maybe get to do some traveling, too - there are certainly some places we would like to visit!

At Diocesan Convention, we made great connections with old friends and new, and had the opportunity to attend the Mission Breakfast, where Melody Rockwell told us about the Global Episcopal Mission Network. We are enjoying exploring all the resources there!

Fundraising Tour Update

Hi everyone, this is Susan. Just thought I'd let you all know we have begun our fundraising tour. Last Sunday, we visited Episcopal Church of the Saviour in Clermont, IA and made our presentation. We are very thankful for the opportunity! This weekend, we are at the annual Diocesan Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Iowa, and our booth in the Exhibit Hall is getting lots of traffic. Thanks to those who have stopped by and to those who have dropped their donations in the coffee cup. We are especially grateful to those who have invited us to come and speak at their churches. We'll be in Sioux City sometime in November, maybe Council Bluffs as well. Bettendorf is coming soon, maybe Waterloo as well. If you would like to host us, please let us know as soon as possible -- we'd like to fit in as many as we can before the winter weather sets in...

The Adventure Begins!

Since visiting Bolivia in 2001 as graduate students, it has been our dream to return and volunteer at the Unidad Academica Campesina-Carmen Pampa. We are finally on our way! In July 2013, Jeff, Susan and Delaney will travel to Carmen Pampa, Bolivia to spend a year teaching English and volunteering in whatever other ways the UAC needs us. Over the next few months, we will be posting information weekly (and sometimes more often) about the UAC and its mission, plus plenty more about our trip. Between now and July, we will be traveling to speak to churches and other groups to share and fundraise. Check back here often once we go to Bolivia, as well. We will be blogging as much as we can, both to share the experience with our friends and families, and to give the many other people and organizations participating in this venture the chance to see and hear about what we're doing and what's going on at the UAC. Please feel free to link to this page, and to share the address with your friends. In the meantime, here's a great video put together by the Carmen Pampa Fund (more about them soon!) -- enjoy and please share!
